The Informers - It’s like, totally gnarly

informers-posterObviously my blog is focused on real estate, but I also like to feature items that are quintessential LA or will be of interest to my rich kids who read daily. Any good, young Angeleno (or newbie Angeleno) is familiar with nihilistic LA author Brett East Ellis who wrote such classis as Less Than Zer0, American Psycho, Rules of Attraction, and now his collection of short stories adapted to film, The Informers. Let’s face it, who doesn’t enjoy watching wealthy, beautiful LA youth doing bad things to themselves and each other. Some would say this is a typical night at Teddy’s, but it’s fun to watch on the big screen none the less. It’s time to bust out your bronzer, peroxide, wayfarers, and do a couple of lines of cocaine to get through this one. Set in Beverly Hills in 1983, the movie follows multiple story lines of intersecting people navigating through the seemingly moral wasteland on Los Angeles. I’ve read the book a few times and thought it was genius, but much like Ellis’ other work, this one simply does not adapt to screen. Even with a strong ensemble cast featuring Kim Bassinger, Mickey Rourke, and Billy Bob Thorton the film still falls flat. I highly recommend picking up the book and if you have not read Less Than Zero, this should be at the top of your list! Now if you will excuse me, I met this total beastie at Spago who looks like David Bowie that is watching MTV with his wayfarers on at his house in the Colony and must join. Yeah, like for sure. I would have been so much fun to have been a teen in the 80’s!
